ACM stands for All-China Made, which refers to AEGs and springers made in Mainland China. It also refers to a kind of game wherein you can only play if you have an AEG or springer gun made in Mainland China. Another term for these weapons are Chicoms or Chicom AEGs, coming from the words Chinese communists since these are made in the People's Republic of China (in order words, Communist China), because the guns coming from Hong Kong and Taiwan are also considered Chinese and are technically within the description (if not the spirit) of an All-China Made gun.
Some people also refer to ACM/Chicom AEGs as Low-end AEGs or low-powered electric guns (LPEG). Thus they refer to the TM/CA/G&G/ICS, etc. AEGs as high-end or high-powered AEGs (HPEG).
The main difference between the ACMs and the high-end AEGs are:
Price
Performance
Authenticity
ACMs cost anywhere from 1/10th to one-half the price of some of their high-end counterparts. The fire power is anywhere from a third to half, though the new metal gear box ACM have closed the performance gap, even exceeding some of the high-end versions. However, the authenticity gap still exists, and some of the ACM manufacturers have taken some liberties on the aesthetics of the ACM renditions of the real counter parts. Some of these differences may be minor (such as the loss of the trademarks, such as Colt, H&K, Walther, etc.), minor differences in the sights/grips/selector switch details, to major differences in the dimensions of some of the parts.
Going beyond the literal meaning of the words behind ACM, there have been several long running arguments about what "ACM" is really all about.
